Pandemic Puzzle

April 2020

Everything broken
              open
                             pieces
              like a jigsaw puzzle

with no box,
               no beautiful picture

of what the world will look like
   when
              this is finished

Not even a promise of a finish

no guarantee that all
              the pieces
                             are there

We live these days suspended

the dump of the puzzle pieces
             was sudden

Some days I struggle
to force the pieces together
              to get to the end
but my heart knows
to let go of the old way
              of thinking

Appreciate the pieces of today
trust that a new vision
is taking shape
just beyond our view

  1. This prayer poem is perfect❣️ It expresses my feelings exactly during this time.
    Thank you Karen🌷

  2. I have been saying that “all bets are off” regarding how we live our lives after we get through this time. Thank you for saying it in a much more profound and evocative way.

  3. Thank you, Karen. I take comfort in your words, knowing that others are experiencing the same sense of powerlessness, and yet dare to have faith that something else is happening, perhaps something more complete. Thank you for sharing! I am reminded of this:

“So you mustn’t be frightened, if a sadness rises in front of you, larger than any you have ever seen; if an anxiety, like light and cloud-shadows, moves over your hands and over everything you do. You must realize that something is happening to you, that life has not forgotten you, that it holds you in its hand and will not let you fall. Why do you want to shut out of your life any uneasiness, any misery, any depression, since after all you don’t know what work these conditions are doing inside you? Why do you want to persecute yourself with the question of where all this is coming from and where it is going? Since you know, after all, that you are in the midst of transitions and you wished for nothing so much as to change. If there is anything unhealthy in your reactions, just bear in mind that sickness is the means by which an organism frees itself from what is alien; so one must simply help it to be sick, to have its whole sickness and to break out with it, since that is the way it gets better.”

― Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet
