The kids are fine. They are smart and careful, I keep telling myself.
And I believe it.
Mostly.
I know the work of life is to endure change. To lean into the wind and grow because of the forces you encounter.
It’s hard to watch in my dear ones.
“The smoke has been so thick, the dogs are coughing,” Sarah says. “The air is orange, like an apocalypse movie. I had no idea that the fires…this is where that image came from.”
I hear that and I want them here, with us. This home. My home.
Instead, I lean into the wind,
And let go.
