The Artist Speaks: Instructions

Welcome! We are excited that you are taking the time to learn more about this project. We hope you will consider making a video to share with us. The format we are looking for is simple and we can assist you with the process if needed.

Video Format – three to five minutes in length

  • Start with a brief introduction of yourself.
  • Who are you? Where do you live?
  • What kind of artistic expression are you going to highlight in the video?
  • Tell us about the piece you are sharing.
  • Answer any of the following questions according to whether they seem relevant to you and your creativity. (These are samples; you can write your own questions.)
    • How does inspiration come to you?
    • How do you choose your subjects?
    • Can you explain how you see the connection between art and spirituality?
    • Do you have a favorite quote that highlights the way you see your art?
    • How has creativity deepened your relationship with yourself and with the world?
    • Is there a particular artist or author that inspires you?
    • Can you describe an artistic moment that surprised you?
    • Is art contagious?
    • What do you do in a dry spell?
    • Why is art or creativity important to the world?

To create your own video:

  • Set up your camera, phone, or laptop to record a video.
  • Make a small trial video to see if the light and the sound are set correctly.
  • Give yourself enough time to start in a relaxed manner. We can edit it for you if there is dead time at the beginning or the end.
  • Follow the format above to talk about your work and its relationship to spirituality; you can adapt the format as needed.
  • Once you have finished, allow a few seconds of silence before you stop the video.
  • Make sure that you save the recording to your device. It should show up as an MP4 file.

To interview another person (or have another person interview you):

  • If you would prefer, you can find a friend to interview you, hold the camera and ask the questions.
  • If you know someone who you would like to interview, you can do the same for them.
  • The process for creating the video is the same as above.

To have someone from our team conduct the interview:

  • Another option would be to set up an online video conference with a member of the Anawim Arts team. We can record and edit the video made during the meeting. You can contact us at anawimarts@gmail.com and ask us to set up an appointment to create the video.

To submit a video for the website:

  • Save the recording from your phone or laptop in an MP4 format.
  • Send the video to us as an email attachment.
  • Send the video to anawimarts@gmail.com.
  • We will review the video to see if we can use it for this project and let you know if we need to edit it.
  • You can also send additional samples of your work that we could highlight alongside your video.
