Creative spark from Arlene Ashack, IBVM

Just recently, a friend recommended the book The Universe in Verse by Maria Popova. So much beauty in that book. I have to say though one line very unexpectedly sparked me…

“To be a flower is a profound responsibility.” (Emily Dickinson)

Who would have guessed that such a simple statement would open up the whole evolutionary process to me, the movement to ever greater complexity? As you can see, I immediately tried to capture the message of the flower.

Appreciating the impact of a single flower on the evolution of life itself, the question that came to me was “What is mine to do?” It is the nature of a flower to offer its gifts. As a human. I bring consciousness to that. How am I offering my gifts in a way that is helping to create a better world. I can’t help but offer gratitude to the flower for expanding my consciousness and allowing me to paraphrase the statement to “To be human is profound responsibility (especially in these chaotic times.)”
