“You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” James 4:14.
Deirdre Bannon, IVBM, found the image of the mist inspiring and thought provoking, especially reminding her the preciousness of life and every encounter. The image of the mist is also represented in this ‘prayer painting’ she was asked to experiment with at an Anawim board meeting. The delicate swirls of paint, like mist, encourage us to reflect on the transience and fragility of life, and to nurture attentiveness so that we can appreciate all that life has to give to us.
‘This reminder calls us to care for one another during our brief time on earth,’ she observes. ‘Who is the Lazarus at our doorstep? Do we share what we have or do we close our eyes, consumed by our own comfort?’ (Lk 16:19-31)
