Artist Statement:

My picture has a Franciscan source because it is inspired by St Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of the Creatures – a prayer that I have always been very fond of and it is in keeping with Pope Francis’ Encyclical letter on ecology and climate: Laudato Si

From St Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of the Creatures:

Praised be to Thee my Lord for our Sister Mother Earth
Who nourishes and sustains us all,
Bringing forth divers fruits
And many- coloured flowers and herbs.

In the background of the picture one can see a vineyard which produces wine and in the foreground there is wheat growing in the field. The brightly coloured red poppies give glory to God and contain medicinal qualities. In our country of Australia they are used as a flower of remembrance for all those who have died in serving their country.
