In the days after our friend Pat Irr died we were gifted with the temporary custody of her cell phone. (See our tribute to her here.) Pat’s cell phone was her camera and because of that it was a companion in her love of being present in the world – seeing and creating. Pat’s great joy was to capture an image and then to play with that image, varying color and light. To look through the photos on Pat’s cell phone was to get a glimpse of her delight in capturing daily beauty. We are sharing some of those photos with you here and on a second page that shows some of her creative editing.

The quotes below were used in the book, God is at Eye Level: Photography as a Healing Art by Jan Phillips. They seemed appropriate to appreciating Pat Irr’s gift us in her photographs.

The greatest thing a human soul ever does in the world is to see something and tell what it saw in a plain way. …. To see clearly is poetry, philosophy and religion, all in one.

John Ruskin

In contrast to the spoken and written word, a picture can be understood anywhere in the world. It can bridge the chasm created by differences of language and alphabet. It is a means for universal communication. It is the language of One World.

Andreas Feininger
