Within this temporal body …. there resides a spirit which … I think of as windblown. Like delicate drapery, it may be torn away and blown off by the least breeze. It brought me to writing poetry many years ago, initially for its own gratification, but eventually as a way of life. (Basho)
Anawim Arts is excited to relaunch its online journal, and invites writers of all persuasions to share a little bit of their own ‘windblown spirit’. Take this prompt from the 17th c. Japanese poet however you like. Here are some ideas.
— Share a story, poem, or essay about when you first felt its presence, or how you listen to it, how it disappears, or even how you argue with it.
— Share how you have seen it in others, or how you see it in writers and other artists you love.
— Share how it vibrates in the trees and prairies around you.
Alternatively, take this prompt in any direction you like. We look forward to reading what you come up with!
To submit, please send a single Word document to anawimarts@gmail.com by JANUARY 15, 2027. We are happy to consider up to three poems (no more than three pages), or three pages of prose (about 1500 words).
Join the conversation by sharing your work!
We would love to hear from you. If you would like to share your artwork or writing for an upcoming Creative Sparks, learn more here. Questions? Reach out to Anawim Arts (anawimarts@gmail.com).
