Anawim Arts is mourning the loss of our dear friend and vital creative partner, Karen Hurley Kuchar. Karen has been the Anawim Arts board president since 2016 when she and Arlene Ashack determined that it was time to give life to their shared vision of an organization dedicated to the intersection of Art and Spirituality.
Over the last seven years, Karen worked tirelessly to recruit board members, provide direction and keep us organized as we grew and expanded. Karen was directly responsible for several of our programs. She led the Wisdom Writing Circles, the weekly sessions that invited writers to a shared experience of self discovery and expression. Karen also imagined and brought to life Creating Space, an interview series in which she sat down with various artists to learn more about their creative processes with the goal of inspiring, cultivating and expanding the creative impulse in all of us.
Karen was a gifted poet who shared her writing with us in all of the Anawim Arts Journals. She published one book of poetry, Consider the Lobster, in 2016 and was working on another book during this last year. That book which will include poems written during these last months will be published in the coming year.
Anawim Arts will be featuring Karen’s poems throughout the coming year as a part of our tribute to her. We are all better writers, better artists, and better people for having Karen in our lives. We are forever grateful.
