We have an exciting and unusual selection for the Featured Artist(s) this month. Rather than highlight a single artist, we are introducing you to an arts centre in Australia’s Northern Territory. We learned about the Merrepen Arts Centre through Susan Daily who was the guest on Creating Space on April 18, 2021
From their website:
Merrepen Art Centre belongs to the Nauiyu (Daly River) community and was founded in 1986. It is a well established Aboriginal Art Centre situated 230 kms from Darwin. The Centre has a reputation for producing quality paintings, etchings and textiles.
About the collaboration with Susan Daily:
Silk Painting: Sister Susan is a Loretto nun who is a religious artist. She has visited on several occasions to train the artists in the techniques in silk painting. All the materials are purchased from outside. Any members of the art centre can come in over a ten day workshop to screen print silk scarves to be sold at the art centre gallery.
We hope that you will take to visit the Merrepen Arts website and get to know the work of their artists.
